Description: Eutelsat is
one of the world's leading providers of satellite infrastructure.
It commercialises capacity through 24 satellites providing
coverage from the Americas to the Pacific, serving more
than 150 countries or up to 90 per cent of the world population.
Eutelsat's satellites offer a broad portfolio of services
that include televi-sion and radio broadcasting for the
consumer public, professional video broadcasting, corporate
networks, Internet services and mobile communications.
Eutelsat has also developed a suite of broadband services
for local communities, businesses and individuals and opened
a subsidiary in Italy called Skylogic Italia to support
broadband services through multimedia platforms. Primarily
from its HOT BIRD orbital posi-tion, Eutelsat transmits
more than 1,400 television channels to an overall audience
of 110 million homes connected to a cable network or equipped
for direct-to-home reception.
Throughout
its 25 years of existence Eutelsat has placed innovation
at the centre of its development. The company was the
first in Europe to distribute digital satellite television
using the DVB standard (Digital Video Broadcasting) which
is now a global refererence for digital broadcasting.
It also played a pioneering role in the creation and promotion
of the DVB RCS standard whose take-up can drive down the
costs of two-way broadband terminals for businesses and
local com-munities beyond ADSL.
